Everything about Nina Myers totally explained

Nina Myers is a fictional character on the television series, 24, played by Sarah Clarke. Nina was second-in-command of the Los Angeles Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) during the first season of the show.

Fictional character biography

Myers received a Bachelor of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies from Harvard University, and a Master's degree in Criminal Investigative Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She served as a policy analyst for the United Nations Security Council before joining CTU. Myers initially served under Christopher Henderson, and was Division Leader for Operation Proteus, where Bauer was Team Leader. When Henderson was forced to resign amid charges of selling classified intelligience, Bauer became Myers' supervisor, and she in turn became Bauer's closest confidante. Unbeknownst to her co-workers, Nina was "dirty", being involved in several treasonous actions throughout her tenure in CTU.

Appearances

Day 1

Nina withstands much scrutiny and helps Jack Bauer immensely, and frequently without official permission, during the first several hours of Day 1 when Ira Gaines is in charge of the plan to kill Senator David Palmer, controlling Jack with the threat of murdering his kidnapped daughter Kim Bauer, and wife Teri Bauer. We learn that Nina had an affair with Jack while he was temporarily separated from his wife Teri, but this has since ended and she's now romantically involved with colleague Tony Almeida.
Once CTU analyst Jamey Farrell is revealed as a mole, Tony and Nina interrogate her. It is initially thought that Jamey commits suicide while being held in custody by them but it's revealed towards the end of the day that she was, in fact, murdered by Nina.
As Nina begins to express concern over Jack's suspicious behavior, Gaines orders Jack to kill her. He takes her out of CTU and to a desolate field where he shoots her; however Jack has slipped a flak jacket onto Nina before moving her from CTU, and has succeeded in informing Nina of the truth—exactly what Gaines was trying to avoid. Nina is involved in the debrief of Kim and Teri at the safe house. Teri correctly guesses that Nina and Jack had had an affair during Jack and Teri's trial separation, angering Teri. An uncomfortable Nina leaves the safe house to return to CTU. After this the house is attacked; Kim and Teri escape but are separated, with Teri experiencing shock-induced temporary dissociative amnesia. Nina continues to assist in CTU activities but is unable to contact Jack to inform him of Kim and Teri's status as missing.
Just before 11.00 pm it's revealed to viewers that Nina is a mole working for Victor Drazen when she contacts his son Andre Drazen directly to reveal that, despite the intentionally misleading press reports, the attempt on David Palmer's life using a booby-trapped telephone has actually been unsuccessful. In discussions with the Drazens she uses the first name Yelena. As a result of this information the Drazens cancel the planned deal that Jack should surrender to them to secure the release of Kim who they've recaptured. The Drazens plan a trap for Jack and order Nina to inform him Kim has been killed to provoke him to attack the Drazens, allowing them to kill him. Nina indeed tells Jack that Kim's body has been found by the Coast Guard, but their gamble fails when Jack, in a murderous rage, single-handedly kills both Drazens and their remaining henchmen in retaliation.
Jack learns from the Coast Guard that Kim's body was never found, leading him to think that Nina is the mole. Jack finally confirms this by having George Mason view the video surveillance footage from the room where Jamey Farrell was being held. The footage shows that she didn't commit suicide - Nina murdered her. Unmasked, Nina begins "exfiltration" from CTU, removing incriminating files and discussing her escape plans with an unknown female contact over the telephone in German. When Nina is interrupted by a CTU technician, Nina kills her. Teri Bauer has been at CTU for several hours but has been getting the run around from Mason about Kim's and Jack's whereabouts and activities. With Jack's continued absence Teri seeks out Nina, and overhears her discussion in the language she identifies as German. Nina merely states she's in conference with CTU's Frankfurt branch. When Teri discovers the body of the murdered CTU technician in the room Nina gags her and binds her to a chair. Nina completes her "exfiltration" and in a subsequent telephone call to her associate is told she'll be moved to Germany, and to remove any trace of the German link. Teri hears Nina say, "Why do I've to go to Germany?" Nina prepares to leave the room, telling Teri someone will find her.
A returning Jack manages to apprehend Nina as she's attempting to escape the parking garage of CTU. Jack seems poised to shoot her dead, telling Nina emotionally "I trusted you.." She says that if he kills her he won't know who she works for. George Mason and Tony Almeida convince Jack not to kill her; Jack releases her and she's taken into custody. Jack enters CTU and is reunited with Kim. In a search of CTU he soon discovers Teri still bound to the chair: she's dead, murdered by Nina. Nina killed Teri because she overheard Nina's plan to go to Germany.

Day 2

Bauer traces the person who sold the plans about CTU to a group that linked it to her. He brings her in, and she demands a presidential pardon, but once she receives it, has additional stipulations. Jack is unwilling to deal with her, and scares her enough into revealing Mamud Faheen's location. He captures Faheen after she locates him, but she somehow alerts him to the presence of the CTU agents, forcing them to raid Faheen's location. Myers escapes but Jack recaptures her.
Nina interrogates Faheen on Jack's behalf and after learning Ali's location kills Faheen. As she demands further terms for her deal, the plane is hit by surface-to-air missiles. The plane crashes, leaving Jack and Nina to be pursued by the Coral Snake Unit. Jack keeps Nina in restraints but leaves her with ammunition and spotter duties while Jack fires upon the advancing soldiers using Nina's observations. Unknown to Jack, Nina keeps one magazine for herself and, after fooling him into tossing aside his empty rifle, picks it up, reloads it, and holds him hostage. CTU agents arrive and Nina demands to speak to the President Palmer concerning a presidential pardon for her past crimes and one for the future murder of Jack Bauer. Palmer agrees, but a CTU sniper wounds Myers and she's recaptured. Palmer lives up to his end of the agreement, though he does place her in custody in Los Angeles, the target of the nuclear bomb, to share in the fate of everybody else.

Day 3

Bauer encounters Myers again in Mexico while both are attempting to buy a deadly biological weapon. While she attempts to back out when it's revealed that Jack is involved, the seller Michael Amador forces her to stay by reminding her that her buyer will kill her if she doesn't deliver. She wins the auction, but is followed and nearly captured by Jack in hopes of implementing a deal. She turns the cards in her favor, knocking him unconscious. When he awakens, she questions his motives, and while he tries to tell her that he's working separately from CTU, she doesn't believe him. She implores him to "convince me," resulting in a kiss. She realises he's lying however and pulls away only to be captured by him and forced to comply with his wishes. She retrieves the virus from Amador, only to have it revealed as a bomb designed to kill her.
Nina is soon captured after briefly taking Chase Edmunds hostage. She is taken on a flight back to Los Angeles, to be interrogated at CTU headquarters. On the plane, she manipulates Bauer into unleashing a computer virus into CTU's system under the pretence of giving him a phone number. In return for killing the virus, she demands to be taken back to Mexico and let free. Bauer refuses, even defying Tony's orders that he land by threatening the pilots with a gun. Chloe O'Brian is able to stop the virus in time.
At CTU, Myers is interrogated by her former lover Tony Almeida. She reveals no information, only making sarcastic references to their previous relationship and his new marriage. He eventually gives in and tries to extract information from her. As she's being tortured, Nina pushes back, and causes the interrogator's needle to pierce her carotid artery. She is rushed to the clinic at CTU, where doctors are able to get a makeshift bandage in place. Bauer is uncomfortable with the idea of her being left unguarded, but barely has time to express his hesitation before an alarm goes off, signaling her escape. Nina has prevented herself from being tranquilized and after the bandage is in place kills several doctors and security personnel before escaping.
She is cornered by Bauer's daughter Kim, who points a gun at her and demands that she surrender. Myers tells Kim to put the gun down and leave, claiming that she doesn't want to hurt her and that she knows Kim won't shoot her. Then Jack arrives and shoots Myers in the shoulder as she's about to shoot Kim. Nina claims that she still has vital information, but Jack responds with a cold, "No you don't." and shoots Nina several times, killing her.

Background

Little is known about Nina's history or motives related to her acts of treason. When Tony Almeida asked her for an explanation during Day 3, she casually dismissed his question without offering an answer. Myers is featured very briefly in . It isn't clear who she was working for. In Season 2, Jack suggests she's simply working for the money. In Season 3, it's revealed that Nina had a relationship with Marcus Alvers, the degree of which is unknown, although when Tony mentions that Alvers is being treated for HIV, Nina exhibits a nervous reaction.
